MTZ PD gearbox assembly
The reducer of the MTZ starter motor (Figure 1) transfers the rotation from the starter motor crankshaft to the diesel crankshaft when it is started. The main parts of the gearbox are the shaft (item 4) rotating on two ball bearings, the friction clutch, the switching mechanism and the freewheel clutch. On the shaft (pos. 4), the gear (pos. 6) of the clutch, which is constantly engaged with the gears of the intermediate starting unit, rotates freely.
The driving drum (item 11) of the clutch is attached to the gear with rivets, which has four protrusions that fit into the grooves on the driving
disks (item 12) of the clutch. The protrusions on the driven disks (item 13) fit into the grooves made on a special collar of the free-wheel clutch, due to which, when the disks (item 13) rotate, the collar also rotates. The inner surface of the clip is made with four shaped grooves. In each groove there is a cylindrical roller (item 14). The grooves of the clamps are made so that at the moment of switching on the clutch, when the sleeve starts to rotate, the rollers roll along the groove and clamp the clamp on the shaft.
Thus, rotation is transmitted to the shaft of the RPD-2.000 gearbox from the starter motor, as well as the gear (item 8), which engages with the flywheel and transmits the rotation of the crankshaft of the D-240 diesel engine. The input of the gear into engagement with the flywheel is carried out with the help of a lever, which is connected by means of a system of rods to the lever of the engagement clutch. The lever clutch (item 1) is engaged. By turning the lever, and together with it, the engagement roller (item 3) to the extreme rear position (toward the flywheel), turns the pressure stop (item 16).

When the lever (item 1) is turned in the opposite direction, the pressure disk, the thrust bearing and the movable stop are compressed under the action of the spring. As the speed of the diesel engine increases, the loads (pos. 9) of the switching mechanism diverge under the influence of centrifugal force, and upon reaching a speed of 750-840 rpm, release the holder (pos. 10). Acting through the pusher, the compressed springs push back the holder and remove the gear (item 8) from engagement with the flywheel. Automatic shutdown of the gearbox occurs. Lubrication of gear parts is carried out with oil, which is poured into the housing (item 7) through the hole made in the crankcase of the starting unit.
