Slaked lime is a white powder, poorly soluble in water, a strong base, reacts with acids (neutralization reaction) to form the corresponding calcium salts.
Density 2.211 g/cm3. Melting point 512° C. Obtained by the interaction of calcium oxide (quick lime) with water, the process was called "lime slaking". When lime is slaked, a significant amount of heat is released, which is 65 kJ per 1 mole, or 1160 kJ per 1 kg of calcium oxide. At the same time, the temperature of slaked lime can reach such values that it is possible not only to boil water, but also to catch fire of wood.
The chemical formula is Ca(OH)2.
