Asbestos cardboard is made on the basis of chrysotile asbestos (content - 98...99%). It is used as a fireproof and heat-insulating material, as well as a sealant for movable and immovable joints.(//tractor-service.com)
According to GOST 2850-95, cardboard asbestos sheets of the following brands are produced:
• KAON-1 (general-purpose asbestos cardboard); these asbestos sheets are used for thermal insulation of various surfaces with temperatures up to 500°C;
• КАОН-2 – used as a sealant and cardboard spacer in the connections of communications, equipment and devices, functioning under the pressure of the working environment up to 0.6 MPa; depending on the type of environment and its chemical aggressiveness, they have a temperature limit: gases - up to 500°C, alkalis - up to 200°C, inorganic acids (except hydrofluoric acid) up to 120°C, melts and salt solutions - up to 400°C, organic compounds (except active solvents) - up to 400°C;
• KAP (asbestos lining cardboard); the main use of asbestos cardboard in combined seals as a soft core, in cylinder blocks of carburetor and diesel engines with a maximum pressure in the combustion chambers no higher than 7 MPa.
