Sawdust as a raw material for biomass pellets
Sawdust is a by-product of the wood sawing process, sawdust is not widely used due to its low burning efficiency. However, this is a particularly suitable raw material for granulation. Lignin, naturally present in wood, acts as a glue to form the pellet. High-quality pellets are dry, hard and durable with a small amount of ash remaining after combustion. Thus, granulation of sawdust provides a new way of turning wood waste into fuel to increase overall profit due to complex and more efficient use of raw materials. The application of pellets from sawdust varies from household heating to large-scale industrial production of electricity.

Sieving device.
The sifter is intended for the separation of raw materials, i.e. cleaning from various inclusions (metal, stones, bark, lumpy waste, etc.) before loading the raw material into the drying drum.

Drying
Raw materials: chips, shavings, sawdust, husks of all types. Humidity up to 65%

Being one of the important and indispensable devices for drying on the production line of sawdust granules, the drum dryer with a rotating drum can dry the moisture content contained in the raw material and makes it optimal for granulation. The ideal humidity for granulation is 10-15%. In this situation, the pellets have better quality and good shape. Drum dryer AVM-0.65 is an important and indispensable drying equipment for the production of wood pellets or briquettes, which can dry high moisture content in sawdust for optimal granulation.

AVM-0.65 drum dryer is characterized by energy saving, high drying intensity, environmental friendliness, high drying capacity, high heating efficiency, etc.
Principle of operation.

In the heat generator, fuel burns and mixes with air in the required proportion. In this way, a drying agent is formed, which is fed into the drying drum.
The raw material is fed into the receiving device of the drying drum by a scraper conveyor or pneumatic conveyor. The feed rate of the raw material into the drum is regulated in such a way that the humidity of the raw material at the exit from the drum is maintained at the set level. In the dryer, the raw material dries to a moisture content of 8-15% and is removed from it by a pneumatic transport cyclone with a built-in fan. In the pneumatic transport cyclone, the dried raw material is separated from the spent drying agent and fed to the consumer through the sluice feeder.
The design of the drum is three-pass, the inner part is made of heat-resistant steel. The dryer is equipped with an inertial ash catcher, which catches large particles carried away from the heat generator.(//tractor-service.com)

Variants of the heat generator for the AVM drying complex:

Portable heat generator with fuel supply hopper (chips, sawdust, husk).

Crushing sawdust
The crusher is intended for crushing wood chips, sawdust and husk into small fractions.
The size of the particles directly affects the effect of granulation, here a mill is used for grinding sawdust, namely a sieve hammer crusher DZU. For a productivity of 1 t/h, our DZU model with a 30 kW electric motor and a productivity of up to 1200 kg/h is recommended.

The raw material for grinding is sucked into the working area through the feed nozzlecrushers and crushed with the help of hammers. With continuous impact against the hammers, the sawdust breaks up into small particles of wood until they become small enough to pass through the holes in the sieves of the crusher. Thus, the crushed product passes through the sieve into the discharge opening for further processing (granulation, pressing) or storage.

Granulation
Granulation is the main procedure on the sawdust pellet production line. The OGM-1.5 granulator with a ring matrix is ​​designed for the production of granules from crushed raw materials, such as sawdust, husks, grass, straw, dry fodder, soybean husks, rice husks, cottonwood, bird droppings, peat and other loose materials. Usually, the granulator is equipped with a ring matrix with a diameter of 6 mm, 8 mm, since fuel granules with a diameter of 6 mm and 8 mm are more favorable for burning. In addition, ring matrices of other hole diameters can also be made according to the customer's requirements.

Principle of work.

The raw material prepared for granulation is fed by a pneumatic system into the storage hopper, from where the raw material is uniformly fed by a dispenser into the mixer of the OGM granulator, where it is moistened with water or steam to the humidity required for granulation and intensively mixed with a stirrer (moisture promotes the formation of durable granules). From the mixer, the moistened raw material is introduced into the press. In the pressing chamber, the raw material is pulled between the rotating die and rollers and pushed into the radial holes of the die, where granules are formed under the action of high pressure. The granules squeezed out of the holes hit the stationary knife and break off. By turning the knife on its axis, you can adjust the length of broken granules. The broken granules fall down and are removed from the press through the casing sleeve. The granules coming out of the press have a high temperature and are fragile, so they are transported by the noria to the cooling column. Here, air is sucked in through the layer of granules by a fan, which cools the granules and at the same time sucks part of the non-granular raw material into the cyclone. During the cooling process, the humidity of the granules decreases due to the evaporation of moisture, and physical and chemical changes occur in the granules. As a result, they acquire the necessary hardness, humidity and temperature. From the cooling column, as it fills, the granules are sent to sorting, where conditioning granules are separated from crumbs.
The granules are removed through the discharge nozzle, and the crumb is taken to the cyclone and further sent along with the raw material for re-pressing.
Basic data: productivity — up to 1.2 t/h. The productivity of the equipment depends on the granulated material and the selected matrix (combined feed productivity up to 3 tons per hour).

The total installed power of electric motors is 105 kW. The binding substance is water.

The main units of the OGM granulation unit: a press with a matrix, a storage hopper, a cooler-sorter, active cyclones, a passive cyclone, a noria, an electrical cabinet, a mixer with a water supply system, a dispenser.

Cooling
The granulation block includes the original OGM cooler.

After the granulation process, the granules have a high temperature (80-90 ℃) and humidity (about 16-18%). Therefore, a wood pellet cooler is needed to reduce the temperature of the pellets by approximately 3~5 ℃ above the ambient temperature and reduce the moisture content to 10-13%, which is better for storage. We use international advanced cooling technology, the pellet cooler creates an excellent effect of maintaining the integrity of the pellets in the work process.

System for packing finished products, (optional)
Packaging of pellets is the last stage in the process of producing pellets from sawdust (pellet production), the stage at which the product is packed into a ready-made container.

For convenience, additional equipment is used: a noria and a hopper for ready-made pellets,floor scales for BIG-BEG. After sieving, the granules fall into the storage hopper with the help of a noria. Scales are installed for weight control. Packaged products are stored in a closed shop.

It is also possible to install a granule packer in ready-made containers from 3 to 50 kilograms. The granule packaging machine can protect granules from moisture, corrosion and oxidation.

Why choose fuel pellets?

Economically effective. The price of sawdust pellets is much lower, and they are less affected by inflation than fossil fuels and other heating alternatives.
* Ecologically sustainable. It is a renewable fuel source without binders, chemicals or dangerous additives that can harm you or the environment. After combustion, the effect is neutral in relation to carbon, and the ash can be used as fertilizer.
* High calorific value. After granulation, the bulk density increases significantly. Heating a certain amount of sawdust granules can generate more heat than direct burning of sawdust.
