Mechanism of action
The active substances imazapyr and imazamox are quickly absorbed through the leaves and penetrate through the root system of the plant. Imazapyr and imazamox enter through xylitol and phloem, acting as an inhibitor of the enzyme acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS) or acetolactate synthase (ALS). AHAS is a catalyst for amino acids: valine, leucine and isoleucine. These amino acids are essential for proteins necessary for the growth of plant cells. Inhibition of AHAS by the active substances of the group of imidazolinones contributes to the reduction of the synthesis of these amino acids, which in turn leads to the death of weeds.
