CHAGA MUSHROOM. DESCRIPTION
Chaga is a black birch fungus that develops on birch trunks in the form of growth (rarely affects alder, maple, beech, elm,rowan). However, medicinal value is represented only by the chaga that grew on the birch. The chaga mushroom, which grew on the site of broken knots on a birch tree, is especially valued. Formed growths are usually irregular in shape with a heavily cracked black surface. Very often they are quite large in size and weigh up to 5 kg, and have a diameter of 40 cm. Chaga has a resinous, black surface, dark brown inside, with a very hard fabric that cannot be scratched by a fingernail. You can collect this mushroom throughout the year, but it is better to use chaga that was cut in the spring, before the leaves began to bloom. It is collected by separating it from the tree trunk, if it does not separate, then it can be chopped offwith an ax. Only the hard part of the growth has useful properties, which must first be cleaned of the loose mass of the fungus and wood residues. After that, the mushroom is cut into pieces 10 cm long and dried in a ventilated attic or in an oven. After the chaga has dried, it is necessary to put it in tightly closed glass jars for storage. It can be stored for six months to two years.
Medicinal composition of chaga
