At present, in connection with the transition to solid fuel, an especially relevant question is
production of fuel briquettes and pellets. Compared to the second raw material for fuel production, hydrolyzable lignin is an easily accessible renewable raw material.
Hydrolyzed lignin is a fuel with a high calorific value, comparable to
coal, but in comparison with coal it has a much lower ash content.
For the production of fuel briquettes and pellets from lignin, it is necessary to pay special attention to bringing the lignin to a certain humidity, that is, the drying process is very important.
Hydrolyzed lignin is a mass in the form of fine sawdust with a moisture content of 40-70%. Hydrolyzed lignin becomes plastic under the influence of pressure of the order of 100 MPa.
This makes it possible to use lignin as a brecciated material.
The calorific value of hydrolyzable lignin is 5500-6500 kcal/kg at 20% humidity, 4400-4800 kcal/kg for lignin with 65% humidity, 2000 kcal/kg with more than 70% humidity.

Pellets from hydrolyzed lignin, size 8 mm, are an excellent fuel for solid fuel boilers with automatic feed for auger feed from the hopper in
boiler.
Characteristics of hydrolyzed lignin pellets:
- ash content - 10 - 15%;
- humidity - 10 - 12%;
- calorie content - 19 - 23 MJ
Pellets from hydrolyzable lignin belong to alternative types of fuel. 1.6 tons of fuel pellets are equivalent to 1000 m3 of natural gas.
