Evaporative cooling cassettes or "cooling pad" are used in conditions of high external temperatures exceeding 35C.

The principle of operation is based on the fact that the hot outside air entering the poultry house passes through a cassette consisting of corrugated cellulose-paper sheets with different angles of the corrugations, through which cold water flows. Part of the water evaporates, and the rest performs the function of washing the cooling cassette and is returned to the pumping station through the recirculation system. Thus, the air coming out of the cassette is simultaneously moistened and cooled.

Thanks to the special technology of impregnation, a strong construction of the cassette of increased durability, protected from rotting and destruction, is created.

Due to heat exchange with water, it is possible to reduce the temperature of the air by 10-15 degrees, which then passes through the poultry house in the tunnel ventilation system, effectively removing heat from the bird.

This system is widely used both in egg, broiler, and breeding poultry farming. It functions perfectly under the condition of the correct selection of the performance of exhaust fans, the area of the cassettes and the maximum sealing of the poultry house, which excludes air "sucking" through cracks and cracks in the walls and roof of the poultry house - bypassing the cassettes.

Cooling cassette systems are expensive, but their use is fully justified in the conditions of a long period of high temperatures and high density of bird landing.

Operating costs of such systems are reduced to the need to use high-performance exhaust fans, as well as periodic replacement of the cassettes themselves. The frequency of cassette replacement is largely determined by the quality of the water used.

Combating the high temperature inside the poultry house in the summer is the most important stage on the way to overcoming heat stress in poultry.

For the southern regions, the cassette cooling system in combination with tunnel ventilation is perhaps the only optimal choice.
