Origin

The Brown Nick breed of chickens was brought to Russia from Germany. This excellent laying hen of German selection was bred in 1965, because it was in the 60s that the demand for eggs with a brown shell increased sharply. The right to be considered the progenitor of the Brown Nick breed belongs to the German company "H&N International". The company is a leading enterprise in the breeding of egg breeds of chickens.

Brown is one of their most popular projects in terms of productivity, namely egg production. "H&N International" sells its product, Brown Nick chickens, in the countries of Asia, Latin America, Western Europe, Canada, and now in Russia.

Externally, Brown Nicks look rather large, the weight of females is 1.7-2.1 kg, roosters are up to 3 kg. The breed is distinguished by autosex (it is possible to determine the sex of the bird by the color of the down even at the age of one day). Day-old chickens are most often plain brown, sometimes with a light narrow strip in the center of the back or with a light wide strip with a dark border against the background of a lighter feather. Diurnal individuals of the male sex are mostly of uniform white color, sometimes with indistinct stripes of a darker shade.

Egg breed Brown Nick has high performance indicators. For example, the safety of a person at the age of 19 weeks is 96-99%, and at the age of 90 weeks - 90-95%. They surprisehens with excellent egg production: productivity under the age of 60 weeks - about 255 eggs, 80 weeks - about 360 eggs, up to 90 weeks - 400 eggs. Also of great importance is the high productivity peak (4 weeks) and almost year-round egg production.
The eggs of the breed we are considering have a brown color and an optimal weight that varies depending on the age of the hens: from 57 grams (25 weeks) with an increase to 70 grams (90 weeks). High-quality eggs with a dense shell and excellent taste. It is noteworthy that they do not have TMA syndrome (fish odor syndrome).
