Description: Moldavian snakehead - herbaceous plant honeysuckle - annual. The stem is erect, four-sided, 40-90 cm high. The leaves are simple, opposite, serrated along the edge. The flowers are blue-violet and less often white, collected in short umbels. The root system is shallow.Seeds – dark brown nuts, 3 mm long and 1.6 mm wide, retain their germination for 3-5 years.

Honey productivity: 138-403 kg/ha for snakehead with white flowers and 34-283 with blue ones for the middle zone, up to 700 kg/ha in black soil of Ukraine.

Flowering time: It blooms from the beginning of July to September, depending on the sowing time and weather conditions of Ukraine.

Biological features: Moldavian snakehead is unpretentious to the soil, it grows best on dense loams and chernozems with a large amount of humus. Unfavorable soils are podzolic, because after the rain they compact and form a crust. Snakehead does not germinate for quite a long time, it cannot fight weeds at an early age, it cannot be sown with other crops, it germinates after 10-15 days. Seeds germinate at 5-7C, are cold-resistant and withstand frost. In the early stage of development, it is demanding on moisture, but then it becomes drought-resistant. Agrotechnics: Moldavian snakehead is sown in early spring so that it has time to emerge and get stronger before weeds appear. The depth of planting the seeds in the soil is no deeper than 2 cm. It requires attention at an early age, because cannot compete with weeds. Flowering begins after 62-63 days from the day of sowing, which gives a way to regulate the flowering time of snakehead. During flowering, optimally 2-3bee colonies per 1 ha of snakehead. Harvesting: mow in windrows and harvest after 4-5 days, in case of unstable weather, do not put in windrows, but harvest immediately.
