The crushed cake must be subjected to moisture-heat treatment before pressing. The requirements for cake entering the screw press should be as follows: temperature up to 120°C, humidity no more than 3-3.5%.

The design of the screw press consists of a bed, a feeder reducer, a screw shaft, a seering cylinder, a conical mechanism and a tray in which the pressed oil is collected.

Oil-containing raw materials that have undergone preliminary processing are fed into the loading hopper, captured by an auger and fed into the screening drum, which consists of separate screening chambers. With the help of the rotation of the screw shaft, the raw material is moved through the chambers of the zeer drum. As a result of the reduction of the free volume of turns of the screw shaft, in the direction of the output of the raw material, as well as the reduction of the diameter of the chambers and gaps of the zeer drum, there is an increase in the pressure of the squeezed raw material. The oil that is squeezed out passes into the gaps between the zeers and collects in the tray. The output of pressed raw material (cake) from the press is regulated by a conical pressure regulator.
