Rye is known for its frost resistance, so it is most often used as siderate for pre-winter crops. We recommend sowing winter rye at the end of summer or early autumn, so that in the spring the area will be covered with a green carpet. This siderate suppresses perennial weeds better than others, but also other neighboring cultures. That is why you should not grow rye in joint crops. In addition, this cereal siderate suppresses pathogenic soil pests. Rye grows well on any soil.
Rye should be cut in May 2-3 weeks before planting the main crops: zucchini, pumpkins, cucumbers, tomatoes, late
cabbage and others.
The great advantage of
rye as a siderate is that it saturates the soil not only with nitrogen but also with potassium as it decomposes. Microorganisms contained in biomass create conditions for the absorption of difficult-to-digest phosphorus compounds, dissolving them. Accordingly, a complete NPK complex of nutrients remains in the soil, which allows any subsequent crops to fully develop.
