Triticale is a new grain crop, characterized by high yield potential, high protein content, and essential amino acids (lysine, tryptophan). This determines its food and fodder merits. The protein content is 1-1.5% higher than that of wheat and 3-4% higher than that ofrye.

Tillage for triticale should be aimed at maximum moisture accumulation and weed control. It is carried out in the same way as under winter wheat.

Nutrient requirements. 28 kg of nitrogen, 12 kg of phosphorus and 26 kg of potassium are needed to form 1 ton of grain and the corresponding amount of straw.

The rate of sowing depends on the zone of cultivation and purpose of sowing, it can range from 3 million to 7.5 million similar seeds per 1 ha. When growing triticale for seeds, the sowing rate per hectare is 3-4.5 million (100-130 kg), for fodder purposes - up to 5-7.5 million (180-220 kg).
