Biennial herbaceous plant with a thick tap root. Burdock is a large representative of the burdock genus, or burdock of the Astro family. The botanical name of the genus burdock comes from the Greek word arctos - bear, and the species comes from the Greek lavein - to take, grab. It reaches a height of 60-180 cm, has a sparsely branched tap root system. The root is fleshy, up to 60 cm long. The stem is ribbed, erect, strongly branched in the upper part. Juicy and fleshy burdock roots of the first year of life are dug up in September - October. The roots are washed with water, then they are separated from the above-ground part and cut lengthwise into 10-15 cm. Roots are dried in the open air or in well-ventilated rooms, and if necessary, they are dried in drying chambers at a temperature of 45-50°C. Burdock leaves are harvested in July - August, dried in the air in the shade or in well-ventilated rooms. Seeds are collected according to their maturity.
