Magnesium is used for the production of light and ultralight casting alloys (aircraft construction, automobile production), as well as in pyrotechnics and military affairs for the manufacture of lighting and incendiary rockets. Since the second half of the 20th century, magnesium in its pure form and in the composition of an alloy of silicon with iron - ferrosilicomagnesium - began to be widely used in cast iron production due to the discovery of its ability to influence the shape of graphite in cast iron, which made it possible to create new unique structural materials for machine building - high-strength cast iron (cast iron with spheroidal graphite - ChSHG and cast iron with vermicular form of graphite - ChVG), combining properties cast iron and steel.
