Archived announcement
Phacelia is a variety of plants that contribute to the saturation of the soil substrate with fertile properties, enriched with nutritious vitamins.
To improve the quality of the soil, it is possible to plant the plant up to 2-3 times per year. Planting of seeds is done both at the end of autumn - before winter, and in the spring and summer months.
The plant is not afraid of frost, so the seeds are planted directly in open ground in most cases.
The first sprouts germinate even at sub-zero temperatures (up to -10 C). Sowing is carried out in early spring (beginning of March), while vegetable crops have not yet been planted. The plant quickly gains strength and grows into a large bush. Already after 1-1.5 months, the first opened inflorescences appear.
During the period of active flowering, phacelia is mowed under the root. The greens are crushed, and then mixed with the upper fertile layer of the soil. After that, they start preparing the garden for planting vegetables. If the soil is excessively depleted, it is recommended to sow phacelia not once in the spring, but throughout the summer season. Therefore, after digging up the ground after 45 days of plant growth, a week later you can re-sow the prepared bed with newseeds..
Experienced gardeners do not miss planting even in the autumn months (end of November). By planting seeds, you can get fertile soil enriched with organic fertilizers by spring.
Preparing to sow seeds, you need to know certain rules:
Before planting, the selected plot should be well dug to a depth of 15-20 cm, while breaking large clods of soil and removing weeds.
After digging, the ground must be leveled and well watered.
Planting material must be mixed with sawdust or river sand before the sowing procedure.
There are two methods of sowing - uniform scattering over the territory of the bed or the formation of streams in which sowing will be done. The second method is more reliable, because the seeds in the furrow will not be carried away by ants or damaged by other insects. Thus, the first shoots under favorable conditions appear after 7-114 days. It remains only to periodically water and enjoy the beauty of a useful plant.

Sowing norms
Facelia reproduction occurs by seeds. They are collected from flowering plants, after the end of the first flowering. The boxes of ready-made plants open, and the seeds in them take on a light brown shade. The latter are collected, carefully cleaned of husks and dried. The main thing is not to overmoisten the planting material. If the seeds are placed in an environment where the humidity exceeds 15%, the probability of good germination for the next planting period is drastically reduced.
Seeds must be placed in well-prepared, loose and airy soil. The depth of immersion in the ground should not exceed 3 cm. Otherwise, there is a risk of rotting of sprouts or very long germination (up to 20 days). It is necessary to correctly calculate the seeding rate. When sowing one hectare, only 120 g of planting material will be needed. But the peculiarity of this culture is that it grows in large volumes.
So from 10 m2 after mowing, they collect at least 250 kg of good siderate.
This mass is equal to 250 kg of fresh manure. Therefore, digging up greens has such a beneficial effect on subsequent crops. In areas where there is no natural precipitation for a long period, sowing is recommended mainly in May, in the first half of July, and at the end of August. The best planting recommended by experienced gardeners is the method of cultivating rows, the distance between which will be from 45 to 60 cm.
In this case, planting material is consumed in the amount of 5-6 kg per 1 hectare. At the same time, if the distance between the rows decreases, then the rate of seedlings reaches 7-8 kg per hectare. After being dug up together with the green mass, the leaves and stems of phacelia are quickly subject to rotting. During this process, there is a large release of nitrogen into the soil, which is fertile vitamins, so necessary for a rich harvest of vegetable crops. Thus, a small amount of seedlings is able to provide nutrients to a fairly large area of poor, impoverished soil.

Care tips
Phacelia is not a capricious culture. Its only requirement for normal and rapid growth is that it does not tolerate prolonged standing water and excessive waterlogging. This plant dies quickly. Loves sunny areas, but will not refuse shade. You should not place plots with crops in areas with drafts. Loves light, breathable soil. It categorically cannot grow in soil with increased acidity and salinity.
Although abundant watering is not accepted, it is still necessary to irrigate, since in dry soilseedlings will not be able to grow.
Therefore, it is recommended to moisturize in moderate amounts, if necessary. The plant should not be grown as a seedling, it takes a long time to get used to after transplanting and is very sick. Therefore, it is more expedient to plant seeds immediately in the soil - faster and more reliably. In periods of heavy rains, it has the property of stopping growth and development, because of this, the duration of seed maturation slows down.
For abundant flowering, it is recommended to periodically apply mineral fertilizers. It should be loosened when the soil is very dry, especially after rain. Active growth responds to the removal of weeds that can "crush" the shrub. It is necessary to collect planting material from the first blooming inflorescences, they give the largest and strongest seedlings.

Phacelia - honeybush
Phacelia is one of the bees' favorite annual herbaceous plants, originally from California. Phacelia honeysuckle is valued for its precocity. After all, it blooms only 35-45 days after sowing the seeds, it blooms for 40 days.
Phacelia is a very valuable summer honey plant for the main bribe, but it can serve as a pasture for bees in early spring and late autumn. The culture is frost-resistant, withstands frosts up to - 9º C and releases nectar even after autumn frosts.
In addition, the advantages of phacelia include very large spread, undemanding to the soil, long flowering and abundant nectar production. The average honey yield of Phacelia from one hectare is 150 kg, but it can be 250 kg or more.

Benefits of using phacelia
Initially, it should be noted that the introduction of phacelia into the soil has a positive effect on the replenishment of the soil with nitrogen. This is the most important factor for obtaining a rich harvest from crops that will be planted later. Similar landings are expediently carried out every 3-4 years. It should be noted that the roots of phacelia independently contribute to the loosening of the soil, due to their powerful structure and large growth on the surface of the substrate.
Phytosanitary abilities of plants are no less important:
Attracts a large number of insects, which have the property of destroying by eating the harmful inhabitants of the sown plot.
It has the ability to reduce the increased acidity of soils, while contributing to the elimination of weeds.
Thanks to planting, it is possible to prevent the development of viruses and diseases (phytophthora, root rot) on vegetable crops planted after siderata.
It has a repulsive smell for nematodes, wireworms and other insects that harm plantings.
Due to the fact that the plant blooms profusely, it attracts a large number of pollinating insects. Therefore, the percentage of pollination of everything around the growing area increases;
It can be concluded that phacelia is not only a useful fertilizer for the soil, but also a healing component for the entire garden. Thus, siderate is very easy to grow, collect seeds, while it structures and enriches the soil substrate, has the ability to regulate acidity and neutralize pests and diseases.
