Chemical composition.

In the flowers there are glycosides (sambunigrin, which splits into hydrocyanic acid, benzaldehyde and glucose, and others), essential oil (0.27-0.32%, terpenes are a significant part of it), choline, rutin; alkaloids coniine and sanguinarine; carotene; acids: ascorbic, acetic, malic, chlorogenic, caffeic, valerian, etc.; tannins, slimes, pentosans, resins, mineral salts.масло (0,27—0,32 %, существенной частью его являются терпены), холин, рутин; алкалоиды кониин и сангвинарин; каротин; кислоты: аскорбиновая, уксусная, яблочная, хлорогеновая, кофейная, валериановая и др.; дубильные вещества, слизи, пентозаны, смолы, минеральные соли.

Preparations from the flowers of the black elder have a diaphoretic, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, disinfecting effect. They are used in the form of infusions, steams, decoctions, for colds, flu, diseases of the upper respiratory tract, kidneys and bladder, for rinsing the mouth. In gynecology, infusions and decoctions of black elder flowers are used for microenemas, douches and baths for inflammatory diseases of the vagina.

Application.

Infusion of flowers is recommended as an expectorant, emollient for colds, flu, sore throat, bronchitis, dry cough, inflammation of the mucous membrane of the oral cavity, as well as for skin diseases associated with metabolic disorders. Rinse with a warm infusion.

With edema of renal origin, kidney diseases, kidney failure, inflammation of the bladder, warm infusion of flowers is taken inside.
