Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) is an annual herbaceous plant from the umbrella family. Passed variety tests in Canada in the northern agricultural provinces of Ontario, Quebec, Yukon, Winnipeg showed excellent results in frost resistance, where the average temperature in January 2014 was - 49 C*, combined with strong arctic winds, snow storms and freezing rain, as well as in North America in the states of Alabama, Ohio, Florida, where the temperature dropped to -50 C*. Passed variety tests in Norway, Finland, for drought resistance in the EEC countries, Argentina, Kazakhstan, Israel, Rostov region, Krasnodar region, Greece, Turkmenistan, where the temperature reached + 55C.
It is characterized by good frost resistance up to - 49 C in a dry winter, drought-resistant, characterized by uniform ripening, coriander is harvested in a straight line, does not crumble. The height of the stem is from 140 cm to 145 cm, the stem is branching in the form of a bush, the width of the coriander plant is 130 cm. The central stem and each branch of coriander ends with a complex umbrella inflorescence, which consists of 40-50 simple umbrellas to which coriander seeds are attached. The two-seeded fruit is spherical in shape. Coriander is widely known as an essential oil, spicy, medicinal and honey-bearing plant. The fruits contain 6% - 8% essential oil and 20% - 25% fatty oil. The components of coriander essential oil are linalool (60-80%), terpenes, alkaloids, proteins. Essential oil is the starting product from which substances for perfumery are obtained: with the smell of roses, violets, lilies, lemons, etc. Fatty oil is used in industry for the production of high-quality paints for painting sea ships.
Distinctive feature of transgenic coriander from other varieties of coriander:
1) Resistance to abiotic stresses due to an increase in chromosomal aberrations of LEA genes, tolerates spring frosts well in the stage of full plant development up to - 38 C*, thanks to the replaced nucleus of genes that increase frost resistance isolated from the oceanic brown multicellular algae Laminaria.
2) Coriander is characterized by thermo-tolerance, resistance to high temperatures due to a set of genes isolated from the camel's thorn, this set of genes in the RNA cells forms the resistance of the cytoplasmic protein of the plant to heat coagulation, due to the high viscosity of the cytoplasm and enhanced synthesis of heat-resistant proteins and enzymes.
3) It is characterized by resistance to all harmful insects, such as locusts, sawflies, umbrella moths of coriander seeds, aphids, etc., due to the wormwood gene embedded in the DNA cell structure, where during the flowering process and before full ripening of coriander, gray resins are released that repel harmful insects, but are not harmful to bees. the natural color and smell of coriander, the release of resin stops instantly.
4) It is characterized by resistance to all diseases affecting common coriander varieties.
The color of coriander is light golden. This variety was sown in Ukraine and showed excellent results in yield.
