Formation of bonsai: the Italian pine belongs to those speciespines, for which, due to their natural growth, the broom-shaped style with a flat and wide crown is most suitable. Other styles can also be created. Adult pine needles are very long (up to 15 cm); on young shoots it is shorter and sticking out. Long needles should be pinched out. The final height of the pine must be such that the proportions acceptable for bonsai are preserved. In young plants, the trunk and branches are flexible and elastic, and even at the age of three they can be formed with the help of wire. In those places where it passes, it is recommended to remove the needles so that they do not get under the wire. The ligature should not fit tightly to the bark, otherwise there will be a threat of its growing into the bark of the tree. The wire imposed in the winter period is removed, as a rule, in June and replaced with a new one, if the branches have not yet been permanently fixed in the desired position. Tension devices are used to form the shoots of old plants. Shoots of young plants that have reached 15-20 cm are shortened, and the upper part of the crown is much larger than the branches in the lower part of the crown. If the branches on the trunk are cut in old trees, then the cut places are processed. Otherwise, don't wait for a new shoot to appear in this area.
