HELIOS

Originator: ZAO "Selena", Odesa.
The variety has been included in the Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine since 2006, recommended for cultivation in the Steppe, Forest Steppe and Polesia zone.
Variety "ricotense". The same type as the Vakula variety, universal purpose.
HELIOS is a variety bred by crossing. It has goodgrain qualities, it ripens 3-5 days later than the Vakula variety, it is bushier, it has a longer spike, therefore, in conditions of sufficient moisture, it gives a higher yield. It differs in reduced photoperiodic sensitivity, which allows the variety to provide a stable harvest at different times of the onset of spring and in different latitudinal zones. High drought resistance is due to the genetically controlled SOD-z2 indicator of drought, salt and acid resistance. The variety is intended for intensive cultivation technologies with reduced seed sowing rates.
General characteristics.
an upright bush, plant height 70-80 cm, leaves not pubescent, green;
the beginning of earing is early;
the spike has more than 2 rows (six-rowed), semi-straight, long (8-10 cm), unbreakable, dense (9-10 segments per 4 cm of the spike shaft), has an average length of the first segment;
the color of the ear is straw-yellow, the shape is pyramidal with a transition to rhombic;
spines are long (16-18 cm) parallel, thin, elastic, the tips of the spines are slightly jagged, without anthocyanin coloration, they separate easily when threshed;
large grain, elongated-oval, yellow, flat;
weight of 1000 seeds - 47.8-49.9 gr.
Agronomic characteristics.
A variety of intensive type, medium-ripe.

Vegetation period - 90-93 days.

The variety is characterized by: (on a 10-point system)
high productivity (7-9 points)
drought resistance (7-9 points)
resistance to lying down (7-9 points)
high crumbling resistance (9 points)
group resistance to volatile and stone soot, dwarf rust, powdery mildew, and helminthosporiosis.
responsive to application of fertilizer (application of ammonium nitrate 180-200 kg/ha increases yield by 10-15 t/ha).
Sowing rate: ≈ 180-200 kg/ha (100% germinated seeds 4.0-4.5 million/ha).
Agricultural machinery is common for the growing area. A delay in sowing for 5-10 days leads to a shortfall of the harvest by 4-6 t/ha.
Potential (record) yield:
the average yield in the state variety test in 2003-2005 was 50.8-55.1 t/ha, with increases over the average standard of up to 20%;
potential yield of the variety - 89 t/ha.
