Vatochnik, or swallow, is the strongest honey bearer. In terms of the amount of nectar per hectare of land, it is without exaggeration to say that it has no equal. According to M. M. Glukhov, the honey productivity of the cotton wool per 1 hectare is 740-1000 kg. According to American authors, a strong family brings up to 6-8 kg of excellent honey per day from the flowering massifs of this plant. Of more than a hundred of its species, the Syrian cottonwood, or esculapia grass, is most often found, which is registered in its wild form in the forest-steppe part of Ukraine, in Belarus, in the Baltic States, in the Caucasus, and in some regions of the Black Earth zone.
According to our eight-year observations, in the north of Moldova it blooms mainly on June 3-10 and blooms for at least a month. There are no nectar-free years. In some
years, bees visit the cotton wool for up to one and a half months. Each flower functions for 5-7 days. Nectar is released abundantly throughout the day at a temperature not lower than 12 C. It gives the impression that the plant is constantly sprayed with honey, which attracts a large number of bees and other insects. ads
