The mechanism of action of the active substance of the drug Hortus, acetochlor, consists in disrupting the process of cell division in the tissues of weeds. Under the action of acetochlor, the movement of amino acids and auxins in the coleoptile stops, the osmotic pressure drops sharply, and the embryo dies. Acetochlor provides an irreversible effect on weeds. At the same time, the absence of weeds is observed for 12-16 weeks.

The effectiveness of the drug may be reduced on soils with a high content of humus and clay. Therefore, it is recommended to use the maximum dose of the drug on such soils.
If possible, the soil should not have large hard lumps, it should be moist and sufficiently warm.

Acetochlor is applied to the soil surface. It is optimal to apply the drug after precipitation or irrigate the soil after application (up to 20 mm). If the soil is dry, it is necessary to fill the soil with the help oflight harrows.
Acetochlor is not effective against already germinated weeds, it can be used with other herbicides and pesticides.
