The herb
donnyka contains 0.4-0.9% coumarin, which gives the raw material a pleasant smell (fresh grass contains the glycoside coumarigen), dihydrocoumarin - melilotin with the same smell, coumaric and melilotic acids, melilotoside glycoside, flavonoids, purine derivatives, fat-like substances, proteins, traces of ether
oils and others.
John's wort has expectorant, anti-inflammatory, hypotensive, anticoagulant, antiseptic, fibrinolytic, diaphoretic, emollient, carminative, sedative, anticonvulsant, wound-healing properties.
St. John's wort preparations are used in the treatment of cough, bronchitis, hypertension, atherosclerosis, flatulence, constipation, increased nervous excitability, hysteria, migraine, insomnia, diffuse toxic goiter, neurocirculatory dystonia, rheumatoid and gouty arthritis, inflammatory diseases of the female genital organs, purulent wounds, abscesses, boils, and also during the menopause.
St. John's wort infusion (cold): pour 2 teaspoons of ground St. John's wort herb with 2 glasses of cold water, infuse for 4 hours, filter. Take 1/3 cup 2-3 times a day 20-40 minutes before meals.
For external use in the form of compresses, baths, an infusion of the motherwort is used according to the following recipe: 2 tablespoons dry and powdered. pour 1/2 l of boiling water over the herbs, infuse for half an hour, then strain.

Also, a hot steam of the plant is used for instillation in the ear in case of inflammation, for compresses on the ear and a sore tooth, as well as for neuralgia of the trigeminal nerve, articular rheumatism, and mastitis.

Alcoholic tincture of dogwood (on vodka): 100 g of dry raw material (herb) is poured with half a liter of vodka or diluted alcohol (40%). Insist for two weeks, then strain and take 10-15 drops inside, 3 times a day before meals, drinking water. The tincture is used for infertility and hormonal disorders, endometriosis, migraines, etc. Store the tincture of the plant in the refrigerator for up to 2 years.
Here's another recipe for the extract of the St. John's wort from fresh grass: 50 g of fresh ground grass pour half a liter of vodka, insist in a dark place for two weeks, then strain. Use 15 drops inside, 2 times a day.
For pain in the joints, it is recommended to apply bags with steamed St. John's wort herb (yellow) for 15-20 minutes. The course of treatment is 10 days. Compresses with ointment are used for external use.
