Urea (urea) is a chemical substance used mainly as a fertilizer. Two varieties are produced today
urea:
brand "A" - intended for the chemical industry and the field of animal husbandry;
brand "B" - for use in the agricultural industry.
Our company offers you a wide selection of "B" brand urea from leading Ukrainian manufacturers. We guarantee the high quality and originality of all products presented on our website and in the regional offices of the First Ukrainian Market of Chemical Raw Materials.
Urea: properties and features
Urea represents the result of protein breakdown. In the natural environment, it is found mainly in the products of vital activity of some species of fish and mammals. First of all, in urine and sweat.
The chemical formula is H2N-CO-NH2. Urea is produced in the form of dense white crystals, odorless, with a salty-bitter aftertaste.
The main difference between urea is its chemical properties. The substance is perfectly soluble in alcohol, water and other polar solvents. On the other hand, it is completely insoluble in chloroform and alkanes.
The French scientist Raoul, who discovered urea in the second half of the 18th century, is considered the first discoverer of urea. However, they were able to identify this substance only in 1818, in England, under the leadership of William Prout, a practicing physician and chemist. Ten years later, in 1828, urea was first synthesized under laboratory conditions. This was done by the German scientist Friedrich Weller. He managed to synthesize urea during the gradual heating of ammonium cyanate.
Today, this substance is obtained by synthesizing ammonia with carbon dioxide according to the classical Bazarov reaction.
Urea: application and special features of use
Urea is most widely used in three areas:
agrarian sector;
food industry;
cosmetology branch.
Agriculture is the main field of application of urea. Used as a nitrogen fertilizer, urea allows you to solve several problems at once:
accelerates growth;
increases productivity;

increases the protein content in grain crops.
Urea fertilizer is a highly concentrated substance. The nitrogen content in it reaches 46.2%, which significantly exceeds the indicators of any other types of nitrogen fertilizers.
Urea is used as the main fertilizer, for pre-sowing and intermediate fertilization. In solid form, urea is used for foliar fertilization of cereal, fruit and vegetable crops. Due to the high
ability of ammonia to volatilize during surface application of fertilizer, it is especially important to immediately cover urea with a layer of soil. This will minimize nitrogen losses.
Urea solution is used for spraying fruit trees and shrubs. For standard soil fertilization, it can be mixed with other liquid fertilizers with nitrogen content.
Urea can be used to fertilize any type of agricultural crops and any type of soil. However, when fertilizing acidic soils, it is recommended to mix urea with calcium carbonate in proportions of 1:0.8. Mixtures of urea with superphosphate or phosphorite flour can also be used to improve the chemical composition of acidic soils.
The main advantage of urea is that it is harmless to plants. When in contact with the surface of the stem or leaves, the fertilizer does not cause burns or other negative reactions. The second important advantage of this type of nitrogen fertilizers is resistance to leaching. It is thanks to this property that urea is actively used in agricultural irrigation.
Urea-based herbicides are also actively used in the agricultural industry. They are used to fight against unwanted plants - weeds.
In the food industry, urea is better known as E927b. This additive acts as a texturizer. It is also used as a glazing agent, taste and aroma modifier. Main areas of use: production of bakery and confectionery products.
In addition, food additive E927b is widely used in the production of chewing gum. In the production of alcohol, urea is used to enrich food additives with nitrogen.
Such a substance as carbamide was also used in other areas: furniture production and the energy sector (for cleaning surfaces from smoke and gases).
In cosmetology, urea is used for the production of skin and hair care products. It is included in many deodorants, shampoos, balms, hair dyes.
To a much lesser extent, this substance is used in the production of pharmacological agents. In its pure form, urea is used in medical practice: as a dehydration agent that can prevent the development or reduce the volume of brain swelling.
In recent years, urea has been widely used to clean emissions from incinerators and thermal power plants. In these areas, the products of the thermal decomposition of urea are used for the reduction of nitrogen oxides.
Also, one of the innovative ways of using urea is the production of its 32.5 percent solution - AdBlue. This substance is intended for the treatment of exhaust emissions from vehicles with diesel engines. It allows to improve the quality of emissions to the level of Euro-4 and Euro-5 standards.
Storage and transportation of urea.
Urea of the "B" brand, used in agriculture, is produced in granular form. This makes it possible to extend the shelf life and at the same time prevent the coagulation of the fertilizer.
Fertilizer is packaged in industrial containers or small retail bags. Urea can be transported either in packaged form or in bulk - in railway hopper cars, special metal containers or mineral trucks.
Under normal conditions, the substance is non-toxic and completely harmless from the point of view of fire safety. However, urea can only be transported by land or water transport. Air transportation of urea is prohibited.
Fertilizer can be stored in closed warehouses with a low level of humidity and an established ventilation system. Urea is allowed to be stored on open-air sites only in special transport bags or containers.
