Transmission of rotation from the starting unit to the SMD-14, SMD-18 diesel engine is carried out by means of a single-stage gearbox RPD-1.000M (Figure 1), which is installed on the flywheel crankcase of the diesel engine. The gearbox includes a housing (item 26) with a cover (item 3), a shaft (item 23), a clutch and an automatic shut-off mechanism. The rotation of the gearbox shaft takes place in two ball bearings (pos. 10, 35), which are installed in the housing and in the cover of the gearbox, respectively.

The clutch, mounted on the shaft (item 23), includes a driving drum (item 24), a special sleeve (item 29), driven (item 6) and driving (item 27) disks, a thrust disk (item 7). The gear (item 9) of the clutch coupling rotates freely on the gearbox shaft, constantly being engaged with the gears of the starting unit.

A leading drum is attached to the gear of the starting motor reducer — RPD (pos. 9), which, with its leads, enters the grooves of the leading discs.Driven disks slotted protrusions enter the grooves of a special sleeve (item 29). The hub (item 5) and thrust disc are connected by bolts with a special sleeve. The movable stop (pos. 4) with the thrust bearing pressed inward (pos. 33) engages with the roller (pos. 34) of the switch.

A gear (item 14) and an automatic shutdown mechanism consisting of a holder (item 19) attached to the flange of the gear (item 14) with bolts (item 20) are mounted on the splined end of the shaft. Two weights (pos. 17) are installed on the axles (pos. 18) in the slots of the holder. Two springs (pos. 13, 22) with a pusher (pos. 21), passing through the hole of a special bolt (pos. 16), which is screwed into the gearbox shaft, are inserted into the inner cavity of the shaft.
