Maklura, named after the American naturalist Maklura, has many others named: Adam's apple, false orange, Chinese orIndian orange, God's tree, God's gift.
Macliura orange, or apple-bearing, is a plant belonging to the mulberry family. It can reach 20 meters in height.
Wrinkled, ripe fruits of the macula are very similar in appearance tooranges, and the smell of their flesh resembles cucumber. But macula, unlike oranges and cucumbers, is inedible. But its poisonous fruits have medicinal properties.
Fruits that ripen in mid-autumn should be collected wearing fabric gloves: their peel is covered with a sticky oil that does not wash off for a long time and makes hands dirty and sticky.
The plant's distribution area is North America, Central Asia, Africa and Crimea.
