ORIGINATOR: INSTITUTE OF PLANT PHYSIOLOGY AND GENETICS OF THE NATIONAL NATURE OF UKRAINE.
ENTERED INTO THE REGISTER OF PLANT VARIETIES OF UKRAINE for 2014 for growing in the steppe, forest-steppe and steppe zones of Ukraine.
BIOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS: medium-stemmed variety, medium-ripening. Vegetation period 265-282 days. It has high winter and drought resistance. Resistant to lodging, damage by powdery mildew and brown leaf rust. Resistant to germination and shedding of grain. Variety - lutescens.
GRAIN QUALITY: FLOUR MILLING AND BREADING PROPERTIES ARE GOOD.
Grain of the variety Astarte contains 13.4-14.2% protein, 28.9-31.5% crude gluten. The strength of flour is 232-287 a.o., the volume of bread from 100 g of flour is 980-1000 ml. Belongs to valuable wheat.
ECONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS: high-yielding, high-intensity variety. Ensures obtaining high and stable harvests over the years on different backgrounds of mineral nutrition. Undemanding to growing conditions, predecessors and sowing dates, has high ecological plasticity. According to the originator (IFRG of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine), during the years of competitive testing (2007-2012), the average yield of the Astarta variety was 95.7 c/ha, which was 19.2 c/ha higher than the yield of the national standard.
The grain yield in the State Varietal Study (2011-2013) in 35 variety trials was 50.3-98.3 t/ha. Significant increases in the yield of the Astarta variety to the national standard of 3.2-32.5 t/ha were obtained in 19 variety trials in 15 regions of Ukraine, covering the steppe, forest-steppe, and Polissia zones.

Substantial additions to the national standard of 3.8-8.4 t/ha were obtained in the Steppe and Forest Steppe of Ukraine.
The maximum yields in the state varietal study: 98.3 t/ha and 96.3 t/ha were obtained at the Vinnytsia State Expert Center of the Vinnytsia Region in 2011 and 2013, respectively; 97.4 t/ha — in the steppe zone of Ukraine (Pervomaysky State Expert Center, Mykolaiv Region) in 2012.
Record high yields were obtained in the Experimental Agricultural Production Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Glevakh village of Vasylkiv district, Kyiv region) 117.7 t/ha in 2008; 106.0 and 107.4 t/ha in 2009 and 2012, respectively.
AGROTECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: the variety must be grown using intensive technology with the introduction of optimal and high doses of mineral fertilizers. To ensure high grain yields, it is also necessary to protect plants from pests and diseases, especially after throwing out the ear, with fungicides such as alto super, falcon or folikur.
In order to obtain high-quality grain, it is necessary to carry out the third top dressing with dry nitrogen fertilizers or foliar top dressing with urea N10-15 kg per ha in the stage of earing - milky maturity.
Sowing rate
seeds 5.5–6.0 million similar grains per 1 ha depending on the zone and moisture supply.
